Recipe: Asian Lettuce Wraps

If you've been to PF Chang's, you've probably fallen in love with their lettuce wraps.
Here's a recipe for a similar dish that your taste buds don't have to leave home for.
It is packed with flavor, fresh, and filling!

The recipe came from and the only modification I made was that I left out hoisin sauce. And only because I couldn't find it at the store!

  • 16 Boston Bibb or butter lettuce leaves
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons minced pickled ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • Asian chile pepper sauce (optional)
  • 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
  • 1 bunch green onions, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Asian (dark) sesame oil

1. Separate lettuce leaves, rinse and pat dry. Set aside.

2. In a medium skillet over high heat, brown beef in 1 Tbsp oil.
Drain & set aside to cool.
Cook onion in same pan.
Add garlic, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, vinegar, and chile sauce, and stir.
Stir in chopped water chestnuts, green onions, sesame oil, and beef, cook for about 2 minutes.

3. Dish the beef onto a piece of lettuce to create a wrap and enjoy!

* This recipe fed 4 of us and I made it with a side of rice, cooked with a beef bouillon cube for flavor!
